Consultations

Clinical care :Breastfeeding Consultation

Consult is recommended 3 - 5 days after birth, 2 weeks post partum, and as often as you need until confidence grows. Some reasons parents reach out... not latching, painful latch, slow gaining baby, weight loss, low supply, pumping questions, or flange fittings. Sometimes parents need some wrap around care for starting solids, bottle refusal, weight checks post illness, new feeding issues, clogged ducts, mastitis, back to work feeding plans or even some help weaning.

For whatever reason you have made this connection with Jacquelyn, you and your partner can expect to be welcomed into a safe space to answer all of your questions. Each appointment includes a full/focused assessment of each nursing couplet, latch, weight, supply and growth. With parent's insights, we will create a plan to help you reach your breastfeeding goals.

***Depending on length of appointment times you have booked, these assessments may be made over multiple appointments.

At the conclusion of any consult, demos/videos for education will be given, your report will be sent to you directly, follow-up appointment made, and other referrals as needed. Your care plan and special links to information will be provided via email and can be used as reference material. Cost of this visit includes phone/text support for the first week during business hours.

Note: Be mindful virtual consults can only assess latch, positioning, sore nipple management, and pumping strategies. It is not always possible to navigate some issues if consult is not in person.

At Home $275 (within a 10 mile radius), In-person or Virtual $25/15 minute block

For multiple babies, expect additional fees of $25 per baby.

Phone Calls

Some parents may wish for a mini session, more individulaized, as a private nurse consult prenatally or postpartum. Common topics:

  • Early pregnancy counseling
  • Pregnancy to motherhood expectations
  • Breast/bottle/combo feeding plans
  • How to manage postpartum mood/referrals
  • Relaxation for birth/postpartum (breathing exercises)
  • Safe prenatal positioning
  • Birth positions/optimal baby positions for birth
  • Infant sleep tips
  • Bottle refusal
  • Back to work planning
  • Creating safe homes
  • Birthplans/preferences

Please note that some questions cannot be answered over the phone/facetime. It is important to know that phone consultations are primarily for basic information and will not be a good fit for assessing more challenging breastfeeding/feeding plans. If it becomes clear during the call that proper assessment cannot be provided over the phone, a suggestion will be made to schedule in-person consultation.

Classes

Milkiways

Recommended to be booked at 35 - 36 weeks of your pregnancy. A prenatal breast screening will be done either in-person/virtual. During this class you will be taught the lost art of hand expression, colostrum collection & breast massage. You will understand milk production, reading feeding cues, getting a pain-free latch, positioning, and feel confident your baby is getting enough. Review of normal newborn behaviours will be learned, as well as, how to store your hand expressed colostrum to feed to your baby at birth. This class encourages each new parent to observe their babies natural instinctive behaviors that leads to a strong breastfeeding relationship. Baby-led breastfeeding will be discussed in great detail. Remember it is instinctive for babies but parents learn how to feed by understanding their baby's cues. Recommended for both parents.

In-Office or Virtual, $100 per couple, 2 hours

Newborn Bliss

Recommended to be booked at 35 - 36 weeks of your pregnancy. The newborn is capable of much more than we ever thought possible. During this class, we will explore the fourth trimester. Babies unfold from the safety of the womb and learn to discover the delights of this outside world alongside their loving parents. Come prepare to be amazed by normal newborn behaviors, normal newborn appearance, soothing techniques, bathing, dressing, sleeping, feeding, swaddling, diapering and all of the other things a novice parent needs to discover in order to survive the first weeks home.

In-Office or Virtual, $100 per couple, 2 hours

Mystical Birth

This class embraces families birthing at home, at hospital, or birthing center to explore physiological birth. In this class we will talk about your expectations and fears. Families will practice tips for working with our body movement to create ease of birth, and explore ways to trigger the body's relaxation response. Partners will learn comfort measures that are useful at home, in the hospital and in between. You will learn about your passenger within and how to work with your body intuitively, learn labor positions and techniques that will shorten your labor, lessen your need for medication, and decrease your need for interventions. I welcome all expecting families and respect that families will define for themselves what a good, safe, supported birth will be. I aim to meet the needs of families who are planning low intervention birth by exploring common labor challenges and brainstorming low intervention approaches to them. The benefits and risks of every typical intervention offered at our area hospitals will be explored with evidence based research so that each family can make informed decisions for themselves and their babies.

In-Office or Virtual, $150 per couple, 4 hour class
